The widow of Andrew Fletcher of Saltoun (1722-1779), grand-nephew of the noted patriot and book collector, inherited a significant sum upon her first husband's death (though the majority of the estate went to his brother). But her second marriage was less fortunate: Lewis Gordon turned out to have been bankrupt and when his estate was sequestered to pay his debts, his new wife's property was included, leaving her penniless. The case outlined in this rare pamphlet (not listed in ESTC or Worldcat) against Gordon and his factor and accountant alleges fraud; they appealed and the legal battle stretched on at least through 1787.
