Description

8vo, pp. 127, [1]. Original colour-printed wrappers. Poor quality paper somewhat toned. Wrappers a little creased and soiled, rear wrapper a little chipped.

Notes

A fragile Collins sixpenny paperback, probably the first paperback printing, of the first Inspector French novel. This format and design, a fairly lurid green paper wrapper that uses a section of the dustjacket artwork of the 1924 first edition, was a short-lived one for Collins, being phased out in 1935. This copy is likely a little earlier than that, as the inside of the rear wrapper advertises other '6d. demy 8vo novels uniform with this volume', including among the other Crime Club novels Agatha Christie's The Sittaford Mystery, first published as a Crime Club hardback in 1931, as number 279; the spine identifies this one as number 291.
