A scarce late Victorian cheap reprint of Darwin's first book, in its original publisher's binding priced to the front board at sixpence, part of White's Manchester Library series, named after the English city in which the firm had offices. It is illustrated with a selection of images often poorly-reproduced and almost certainly not produced for the text, including an engraving of Maori King Tāwhiao (1822-1894) which seems to have been taken from an 1892 photograph.
Library Hub records just three copies: at National History Museum, National Maritime Museum and Swansea.
