Notes

These editions of Alcott's iconic Little Women and its sequel were the first featuring full colour plates by artist and suffragist Mary Vermuyden Wheelhouse (1867-1947). A successful working illustrator, Wheelhouse also made her living as a toy-maker, founding Pomona Toys with fellow artist Louise Jacobs in 1915. She was an active member of the Women's International Art Club, and helped found the Artists' Suffrage League.
