The first British edition, scarcer than the American, of the best-remembered work of the American author Edward Lucas White (1866-1934). White took inspiration from his own nightmares in his fantastical and horror stories; the title story here, in which an explorer suffers a nightmarish fate after being cursed by a witch doctor in a remote part of central Africa, is his most frequently reprinted.
