2 vols., 8vo, pp. iv, 502; [5], 504-956, lxxvi. Partly unopened in original green glazed cloth-backed boards, contemporary red morocco spine labels replacing the original printed paper. Some spotting. Spines sunned, a few minor marks. Presentation bookplates to the Library of the Cathedral Church of Worcester from Miss Duke of Birlingham.

Notes

A very nice set in its original form - apart from the early addition of attractively gilt spine labels to replace the original printed paper ones - of the Valpy reprint of Bentley's text of Manilius (from 1739) with the addition of notes from the Delphin edition of 1679. This is one of just a small number of printings of Manilius, a famously obscure author with a rough textual tradition, which nonetheless attracted attention from the finest scholars of multiple generations: Scaliger, Bentley, and then, in the 20th century, Housman.
