Two early Pynchon short stories, originally printed in magazines in 1959 and 1964 respectively. These are often referred to as pirated editions, although their legal status is at best grey, with disputes over rights resolved with an agreement with Pynchon's representative in the early 1980s to allow Aloes to sell their remaining stock. The Secret Integration was reprinted in Pynchon's 1984 collection Slow Learner, while Mortality and Mercy in Vienna remains uncollected.
