A collection of myths and legends gathered and recorded by New Zealand-born Inez Hames, who spent decades as a schoolteacher in Fiji. She had previously published some of these stories in 1960 as 'Legends of Fiji and Rotuma', and later collaborated with publisher and author Alexander Wyclif Reed (1908-1979) who helped rewrite and compile the tales in this book, some of which were collected from 'living narrators'.
