SKU: 5016 Category: Tags: , ,

8vo, pp. [vi], 415, [1]. Printed prize leaf bound in before half-title. Untrimmed and mostly unopened in contemporary green vellum boards, front board blocked in gilt with the arms of Eton College, spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt. Somewhat discoloured overall, spine sunned and spotted. The prize leaf filled in awarding the book to E.R. Willoughby Radcliffe and signed by headmaster Cyril Alington, dated 1917.

The unlimited one-volume issue - printed in black throughout, unlike the 2-volume issue limited to 525 copies (mostly in quarter buckram) which, like the other Bibliotheca Riccardiana editions, had initial capitals in blue. Meant to be used, this version is less commonly seen than the limited, and a number were given as Eton prize like this, almost always in special bindings though this green vellum is particularly unusual.
