The scarce first printing of John Hunter's edition of Horace, which was reissued in two volumes in 1813. It was produced while he was Professor or Humanity at St Andrews, and printed by the Perth printer James Morison in his capacity as printer to the university. It is one of a series known as 'immaculate' classics, each of which was proofread three times by the printer and the editor. Hunter dedicated it to his erstwhile employer, Lord Monboddo. Dibdin calls it 'a neat and elegant pocket edition, and published with great care and correctness; at the end are some short and perspicuous notes'.
ESTC records just 4 copies: NLS and BL in the UK, Huntington and McMaster in North America.
