Contemporary calf, boards bordered with a gilt roll, flat spine divided by gilt rules between gilt rolls, black morocco label (reading ‘Virgilius / Maittaire’), other compartments with small gilt flower tool. Some spotting and staining, several marginal tears and paper flaws. Rubbed and scuffed, extremities worn. Ownership inscription of Thos. Briggs to flyleaf, along with gift inscription to S. Canning, March 28 1802, two leaves with substantial marginal notes in English elucidating allusions.
