FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. 447, [1]. Contemporary tree calf, spine divided by double gilt rules, red morocco label, edges sprinkled blue. A little spotting, occasional scattered marginal dampmarking. Somewhat rubbed and worn, joints cracking.

The first publication by Anne Grant, for whom publishing her poetry was a solution to the dire financial straits she found herself in following the death of her husband in 1801, which left her with a £30 pension with which to raise 8 children. An inveterate letter-writer, Grant has a large circle of correspondents which helped her raise subscriptions; the subscribers' list to the rear runs to some 32 double-columned pages.
