Description

48vo, pp. 192 + engraved frontispiece and additional engraved title-page. Contemporary calf, boards bordered with a double gilt rule, spine divided by raised bands, black morocco label, compartments bordered with a double gilt rule and tooled in blind within, marbled endpapers. Engraved leaves rather foxed, some spotting elsewhere. Binding rubbed and scratched, front joint cracked but sound. Ownership inscription of Edith Still dated 1895 to initial blank, pencilled inscription to flyleaf verso.

Notes

The third edition of the original entry in Pickering's near-miniature 'Diamond Classics' series, first published in 1820 and debuting the tiny 4.5pt 'diamond' type. It was reissued in 1824 and 1826 (as here), with the typographical title-page retaining the 1824 date but the engraved title-page and the colophon updated.
