Description

8vo, pp. [96]. Red roan ruled notebook, emerald marbled endpapers, filled out with manuscript recipies and frequent pasted in clippings, last few leaves with doodles and pen trials. Some spotting and soiling, a section excised at rear exposing stitching. Rubbed and scratched, small tear to foot of spine. Signed by S. M. Blackwell to flyleaf.

Notes

A charming recipe and household notebook with handwritten recipes, newspaper clippings on housewifery, and children's drawings. The handwritten sections are primarily if not entirely cookery recipes, among them several for Christmas Pudding, lots of meat (rabbit, pork, and beef) - including 'stewed rabbit as served in Spain and Portugal', while the printed clippings are mostly for remedies and cleaning, though they also include a further Christmas Pudding recipe and one for 'A Dish of Currie after the Indian Manner', and several about the Cutty Sark. One of the manuscript Christmas Pudding recipes is taken from the Daily Express one-guinea prize recipe for 1924.
