4to, pp. [xx], 455, [71], 148, [16] + engraved half-title. Eighteenth-century calf, boards bordered with a blind rule, spine gilt in compartments with double red morocco labels, marbled edges and endpapers. Some gatherings toned, some spotting and light dustsoiling. Extremities rubbed, head of spine chipped. Ownership inscription of John Campbell to title-page, along with booklabel of ‘Kilberry’, monogram ‘AK’ in gilt to foot of spine.


The first Delphin edition of Juvenal and Persius - like many Delphin classics, the basis for a number of subsequent editions - edited by Louis Desprez. This copy, from the library of the Campbell family of Kilberry Castle, is in an attractive binding, probably French.
