Description

FIRST EDITION, slim folio, comprising engraved title-page, letterpress index leaf, large map, and 61 engraved strip maps on 31 folding sheets. Original wallet-style plain limp sheep, folded to 8vo size. Some soiling, edges rubbed and in some cases slightly worn. Spine restitched with cloth reinforcers and leather renewed with original outer covering laid down in most places.

Notes

The first edition of the first road atlas of Scotland, showing strip maps at a one-inch to one-mile scale. This is one of the rare examples to preserve the original limp wallet-style binding, which enabled the long maps to fit into a saddlebag without having to fold and unfold each map individually.
