Description

FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. 456 + 2 folding maps and 7 engraved plates. Near-contemporary half black calf, marbled boards, spine divided by raised bands ruled in gilt, brown morocco label lettered in gilt, marbled edges. A touch of spotting to plates. Binding rubbed and a little worn to extremities. Pencil ownership inscription to front flyleaf.

A substantial but concise history of Edinburgh, an expansion of the author's earlier 'Annals of Edinburgh and Leith' of 1839.
