Notes

An elegantly-bound small-format edition of Scott's poem by the Glasgow firm of miniature book-publishers, David Bryce, retaining its rare and fragile dustjacket, which is printed 'with best wishes' to the front panel. The major markets for publications of this nature and format were as gifts and for tourists; this example proves both via its dustjacket and inscription, which indicates that it caught the fancy of a francophone visitor to Victorian Callandar, very close to the setting of Scott's poem.
