Description

12mo, pp. 30, [ii], 193, [1] + engraved frontispiece portrait and two engraved plates. Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, spine divided by raised bands between blind rules, green morocco label lettered in gilt, other compartments tooled in blind, marbled edges and endpapers. Some foxing, particularly to plates, tear to one leaf with no loss of sense. Binding a little rubbed and marked, rear joint just starting.

Notes

An early edition of Fergusson's poems published with David Irving's (1778-1860) biography of the poet, which had been first published separately the year before. One of the engravings all too clearly captures a verse from 'A Saturday's Expedition', detailing 'The woeful fate of those whose cruel stars / Have doom'd them subject to the languid powers / Of wat'ry sickness' - i.e. seasickness.
