The first edition of this tribute to painter and engraver Samuel Palmer's (1805-1881) lifelong fascination with Milton's poetry published by Palmer's son Alfred Herbert Palmer (1853-1932). The plates are photogravures of the engravings that make up Palmer's 'Milton Series', with his son finishing his preface by stating 'I would persuade myself to hope that the work has been done as he himself would have wished it done'.
