Notes

A scarce English translation of a 14th-century Icelandic Saga, possibly inspired the appearance of a translation from the Old Norse by Eiríjur Magnússon and William Morris, which first appeared the previous year and was collected in book form in 1875. It's not clear what the German source for this translation was; Amalie von Imhoff's celebrated 1826 German version was taken from Swedish author Esaias Tegnér's verse rendering, for which he composed new cantos, and this prose rendering is noticeably shorter. Library Hub records just three copies, at BL, Oxford and Cambridge.
