FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. xii, 339, [1], viii, 24 [ads]. Original green cloth, front board lettered in gilt and lined top and bottom with triple gilt rules, spine lettered in gilt and ruled in gilt and black. A little spotting. Just a touch rubbed, spine ends bumped.

Notes

The first edition of this introduction to Darwin's work by atheist socialist (and later translator of Marx) Edward Aveling (1849-1898). It was published as the second volume in Annie Besant and Charles Bradlaugh's Freethought Publishing Company's series 'The International Library of Science and Freethought'.
