Notes

The first edition of Milman's Life of Horace, rare in the publisher's binding, and normally found together with the poet's works - as per the general title-page here - though the volume curiously otherwise gives no numbering or other indication that this is a part of a larger work. Milman's Horace is notable for its colour decorations, designed by Owen Jones, and while the heights of his work are found in the section titles of the poems, the decorative elements here are still characteristically bold.
