[With:] Cromek, R.H., Reliques of Robert Burns; Consisting Chiefly of Original Letters, Poems, and Critical Observations on Scottish Songs. Second Edition. London: Printed by J. M’Creery for T. Cadell, and W. Davies, 1813. 8vo, pp. xxiii, [i], 453, [1]. Uniformly bound in contemporary calf, board bordered with blind rolls and rules, spines divided by gilt rolls and rules, lettered direct in gilt and tooled in gilt. Some scattered spotting and toning, three pages torn without loss. Somewhat rubbed, some joints cracked. Binder’s ticket of T. Sowler, Manchester, to pastedown of vol. 1.

Notes

The first collected edition of Burns' work, which was reprinted in London the following year. As well as his poetry the volumes contain many of his letters and biographical and critical notes. This copy belonged to Dumfriesshire minister and author Kenneth Moody-Stuart (1842-1904). This set has been uniformly bound with an 1813 printing of Cromek's Reliques of Robert Burns.
