Description

4 vols., 8vo, [ii], viii, 389, [1] + frontispiece; [ii], xxiii, [i], 467, [1]; xvi, 431, [1]; xxiv, 415, [1]. Later black boards, printed paper labels to spines. Labels toned, one label chipped, just a touch of wear to extremities.

Notes

A tidy set of the second edition of the first collected works of Burns, following the 1800 Liverpool edition. The textual changes between the editions were minor, and the frontispiece is in fact the same plate (with its own imprint dated 1800) reused across the three. 'The content is in the same order, but the differences reflect this new edition, most notably in the new advertisement, the lack of a list of subscribers, and the added appendix' (Lamont).
