Notes

The text of a testimonial to MacDiarmid, which per his friend and publisher Duncan Glen, was '"got up" by William Power and signed by several hundred writers and signed by several hundred writers including most Scottish Writers of any note' (Glen, Hugh MacDiarmid and The Scottish Renaissance' Edinburgh: W.& R. Chambers, 1964 p. 136). Power was at the time president of the Scottish chapter of PEN International, in which capacity he likely organised the tribute, and may have arranged for further copies to be printed. The text makes references to signatures appended, although this copy is unsigned. We can find no trace of it in any library collections.
