John Lawson was one of a number of supposedly fictitious voters in Elgin and Forres during the election of 1784, in which Alexander Penrose-Cumming was defeated by James Duff, Earl of Fife. This petition, unknown to ESTC, is his response to the charges, inviting the case to go ahead.
