A petition on behalf of merchant Alexander Govan, appealing a decision to not levy penalties on Thomas Lang, flesher, whose sheep 'became an absolute nuisance to the neighbourhood, breaking through all the fences, and destroying every green thing' in the fields adjoining the Glasgow to Edinburgh road near Kirkintulloch. Govan was awarded damages but claims that by statute he should also be awarded penalties proportional to the size of the offender's herd. Aberdeen and Advocates Library only in ESTC.
