A petition for William Abbot, a brewer of Dundee, who was falsely accused of robbing the widow of Thomas Bower, former Provost of the city. Janet Alison had claimed 'a Person with a Paper on his Face' had 'tied her Hand and Foot, and took some Money out of her Repositories while she was in that Condition', and some months later had spotted William Abbot out of a window and called him 'the Lown, Villain and Thief'. Abbot was found innocent and Alison fined, but she did not pay and died shortly afterward. Abbot transferred the charge to her nephew, who claimed his aunt was delirious and not responsible for her actions; Abbot here seeks dismissal of that defence and enforcement of the earlier judgement.
