8vo, pp. xxxi, [i], 392 + folding map frontispiece and 1 folding plate. Contemporary panelled calf, spine divided by raised bands, edges sprinkled red. A little spotted and toned, some marginal dampmarking, small handling tear to edge of map. Some small areas of loss to leather, particularly to head of spine, front joint split but cords holding, front board leather peeling to joint edge, spine creased, label lost. ‘Illumino’ bookplate to pastedown, armorial bookplate of James Hardie, writer, to blank verso of title-page, small paper number label to foot of spine.

Notes

The second edition of Martin's magnum opus, a survey of the people and customs of the Scottish islands at the end of the 17th century, with both the map (often missing) and plate present and correct.
