Notes

The first complete English translation of the most celebrated work of French lawyer Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), titled 'Physiologie du goût, ou méditations de gastronomie transcendante' in the original French. Though abridged versions of the text had been published in English in 1854, 1859, and 1879, the preface to this edition heralds it as 'the first attempt made to offer English readers this book as it was written'. This first printing was limited to 500 copies, 300 printed for the British market and 200 for the American.
