Description

FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. viii, [284], 75, [1]. Final advertisement leaves discarded. Later half green calf by Hatchards, green cloth boards, spine divided by raised bands gilt and lettered direct in gilt, compartments bordered with double gilt rules, top edge gilt. A touch of spotting. Binding sunned, leather a little scratched, a little wear to extremities.

Notes

The first edition of Grose's dictionary of regional slang and dialect, arranged geographically. Separately-paginated is a section on superstition, encompassing ghosts, witches and fairies, among others. It was reprinted in 1790 and again in 1811.
