12mo, pp. [iv], 284 + frontispiece. Contemporary calf, spine divided by double gilt rules, brown morocco label. A little toned, some offsetting from frontispiece, flyleaf partially-sprung. A little scratched and rubbed, front joint split but cords holding, extremities bumped and a little worn. Armorial bookplate of Joseph Phillimore and his ownership inscription dated 1809 at Orton-on-the-Hill to pastedown

Notes

One of numerous printings of a pocket or 'miniature' dictionary claiming descent from Johnson's magisterial work - though likely without any connection beyond his name and the visage on the frontispiece. This copy belonged to Joseph Phillimore (1775-1855), lawyer and member of parliament.
