A collection of classically-inflected verse in Latin and Greek by Edinburgh-born William Ross Hardie (1862-1916) 'the most brilliant undergraduate classicist of his generation' (ODNB). The first section is original verse in Latin including a panegyric on St Andrews University, and the larger second section is a heterogeneous collection of parallel-text translations. They are predominantly into Latin, although a small section of Shelley's The Cenci is rendered into Greek, and include selections from Milton, Stevenson and Racine, as well as sections of Alexander Pope's translation of The Iliad, translated into Latin.
