NO. 146 OF 201 LARGE-PAPER COPIES SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR AND THE PUBLISHER, 8vo, pp. xvii, [iii], 128, [2], 92, [2], 127, [3], 108, xxiv, 13, [3] [ads] + 4 mounted india-paper plates. Original quarter roan, dark blue textured cloth boards, spine lettered direct in gilt, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Somewhat rubbed, some marks to boards. Signed by the author and publisher to the limitation-slip pasted to pastedown, first leaf of each gathering numbered ‘146’ in pencil, purchase receipt from Bernard Quaritch dated 10 Jan 1899 pinned to flyleaf.

Notes

The limited, large-paper edition of the first edition of this popular piscatorial handbook, in four sections that were also printed separately. The various sections were updated and reprinted well into the twentieth century. This copy preserves a receipt for its purchase in 1899, when it sold for 17 shillings.
