FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. xv, [i], 428, 24 [ads]. Partially-unopened in original brown pebbled cloth, boards bordered with blind frames, spine lettered direct in gilt. A touch of spotting. Binding somewhat soiled and marked, unevenly but lightly sunned, small split to head of front joint. Ink and embossed stamps of Garrison Bibliothek, Copenhagen, to first few leaves, ‘Early Technology’ bookplate of Michael Bennett-Levy to pastedown.

Notes

Robert Sabine began his career as an electrical engineer around 1860s working for Charles Williams Siemens, to whom this book is dedicated and who established the British branch of the family firm which bears their name in 1850. This work was retitled 'The History and Progress of The Electric Telegraph' for its subsequent editions, reaching a third by 1872.
