Notes

The rare first separate publication of this paean to rugby union, inspired by a varsity match at Queen's Club. Sir John Collings Squire was editor of the London Mercury, in which the poem was first published, before this private printing of just 50 large paper signed copies and 200 regular. The regular copies are rarer to find signed; this example is from the library of Philip Gosse, the authority on pirate literature.
