First few leaves torn to gutter, some leaves a little creased. Somewhat rubbed, some wear to extremities, particularly spine-ends.

Notes

American inventor Amos Dolbear developed a telephone receiver with a fixed magnet some 11 years before Bell, but was unable to prove it, leading to a courtroom patent loss in 1881. He went on to patent his own system of wireless telegraphy 2 years later.
