Notes

The first American edition of this translation of Sallust by Scottish landowner and soldier Sir Henry Seton Steuart (1759-1836). Better remembered for his arboriculture, Steuart was a reasonably accomplished scholar, though his translation has been criticised for its verbosity and liberties with the original. First published in London in 1806, this was its first appearance in North America.
