Notes

An anthology of Greek and Latin poetry with translations from Shakespeare, Burns, Pope, Wordsworth and Milton alongside contemporary compositions in classical languages. It was edited by classical scholar Rev. William Linwood (1817-1878), remembered by his contemporary William Tuckwell as 'a rough, shabby fellow [who] used to scandalise his colleagues by proposing that for the adjudication of Classes they should "throw into the fire all that other rubbish, and go by the Greek Prose."'
