FIRST EDITION, 8vo, pp. xxxvi, 179, [1]. Original finely-grained brown cloth, boards blocked in blind, spine lettered in gilt. A little faint toning and spotting. Extremities bumped and just a touch worn. Stamp of the Crookehaven Library to title-page.

Notes

The first verse translation of the Birds of Aristophanes, produced by the Reverend H.F. Cary (1772-1844), best known for his version of the Divine Comedy. Mainly in 'fourteeners', the translation includes the first use of the term 'Cloudcuckooland'.
