The first appearance of Constance Garnett's translation of Dostoevsky's 1859 novel, the 12th and final volume in Heinemann's 'Novels of Fyodor Dostoevsky' series. The other story alluded to in the title is 1849's Nyetochka Nyezvanov, an unfinished novel which still accounts for some 150 pages. This is the latter work's first appearance in English.
