Notes

The first two volumes, in publisher's cloth, of the Family Classical Library series, attributed on the boards to A.J. Valpy alone but with the addition of Colburn and Bentley on the title-pages. Both volumes contain a prospectus for the series, addressed 'to those who are desirous of obtaining a knowledge of the most esteemed Authors of Greece and Rome, but possess not the means or leisure for pursuing a regular course of study'. It eventually ran to 52 volumes.
